A massive wildfire known as the Dragon Bravo Fire continues to rage near Old La Sal, Utah. The fire, which began on July 4, has created a rare and dangerous phenomenon—a fire vortex, or “fire tornado”—that’s drawing nationwide concern. Fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, the fire remains uncontained as of Friday, threatening homes, wildlife, and hundreds of acres of land.
Emergency crews are battling the blaze around the clock. According to Utah Fire Info, over 150 personnel have been deployed, with helicopters and water tankers supporting ground efforts. Evacuation alerts remain in effect for nearby communities as fire behavior remains extreme.
The fire vortex, caused by intense heat and swirling winds, can lift burning debris high into the air, spreading the fire further and faster. Scientists describe it as one of the most unpredictable elements of wildfires, making suppression efforts even more dangerous.
