Regarding its unfulfilled self-imposed deadline of August 15, 2025, to start producing premium motor spirit and automobile gas oil products nationally, Nigeria’s massive Dangote Refinery has stayed silent. On June 15, the refinery, which produces 650,000 barrels per day, stated that it would deploy 4,000 compressed natural gas trucks to distribute fuel and diesel to consumers around the country.
The Ibeju Lekki-based oil company had claimed that the plan would consume its N720 billion yearly investment once it got underway. According to Dangote Refinery, the program will save Nigerians N45 per liter in logistics expenses each year, translating into N1.2 trillion in “free distribution costs.”
Marketers, merchants, and suppliers whose companies are directly impacted by the program have had conflicting opinions on the Dangote Fuel Distribution plan, despite its purported advantages.
Perplexity surrounding the arrival of CNG trucks from Dangote Refinery
Outside of rumors, Dangote Refinery has not yet provided an official explanation for the delay in the plan, which Aliko Dangote, the $20 billion refinery’s president, described as a significant “shakeup” of Nigeria’s downstream oil industry.
After President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited his plant, he declared, “It’s going to be one of the biggest changes in the country— not a price cut, but a full-scale overhaul.”
The consignment of CNG trucks was delivered to the company on August 11.
