Johannesburg The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have referred to the South African Police Service (SAPS) commission of investigation as “tainted” and are urging retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga to disassociate himself from it.
Due to procurement concerns, the Madlanga Commission declared on Tuesday that it will not start work on September 1st as planned.
The Madlanga Commission will start in Pretoria on September 1.
The judicial commission of investigation was established as a result of accusations of criminal activity, political meddling, and corruption in the criminal justice system made by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, last month.
The Justice Department has come under fire from the commission for not acquiring necessary infrastructure by the predetermined timeframe.
According to Sinawo Tambo, national spokesman for the EFF, this is just another intentional move by the government to prevent those involved in high-level corruption in the security cluster from taking responsibility.
Therefore, we implore Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga to ask that he withdraw from this shameful and fraudulent procedure, as it will damage his reputation in the legal community. His indignation at intentional sabotage should be followed by his resignation since it is obvious that he is being used as a pawn in a process that aims to weaken South Africans’ anger with crime.”
The media will be briefed by the justice ministry regarding the postponement of the proceedings of the Madlanga Commission.
