South Africa is looking into 17 of its residents who are fighting in Ukraine.
Men between the ages of 20 and 39 who were “lured to join a mercenary force” in the conflict-ridden Donbas region have asked for help getting back home.
South Africa is investigating how 17 of its people got into the eastern Ukrainian area of Donbas, which is devastated by conflict.
Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, reported that it had received distress calls from 17 individuals, ages 20 to 39, who had been “lured to join mercenary forces involved in the Ukraine-Russia war under the pretext of lucrative employment contracts” and were now asking for help to come home.

Numerous accounts exist of African nationals and recruits from Nepal, Syria, and Cuba being coerced or tricked into fighting in Ukraine by Russian authorities and shadowy middlemen, frequently after being enticed with false promises of rich non-military occupations posted on social media.
