The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), today sealed off Ejanla Restaurant in Lekki for gross environmental violations, specifically for illegally discharging raw sewage into public drains.
The decisive action, confirmed by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Thursday, follows an investigation that uncovered the restaurant’s deliberate attempt to pump untreated wastewater directly into the state’s drainage system.
The LSWMO investigation revealed that the restaurant, located at No. 40, Fola Osibo Street, Lekki, was using a pumping machine to discharge raw sewage. This illegal practice was cited as the cause of a persistent offensive odour in the neighbourhood, constituting a public nuisance and severely endangering human life.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab: “The Lagos State Government will not tolerate actions that compromise public health and environmental safety. Every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and/or prosecution.”
The Commissioner emphasized that the administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards businesses and residents who violate existing environmental regulations.
The sealing of Ejanla Restaurant is part of a broader, intensified enforcement campaign by the Lagos State Government to hold commercial establishments accountable for proper waste disposal and wastewater management, thereby safeguarding the environment and preventing disease outbreaks.
