Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially confirmed his political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, formally registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and declaring the commencement of a formidable opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku was formally registered in his Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State today, Monday, November 24, 2025, by officials of the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee, ending months of speculation following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July.

Moments after receiving his membership card, the former PDP stalwart issued a fiery statement, challenging the incumbent government and urging a nationwide political mobilization.

Atiku Abubakar: “Now I have picked my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will chase the APC out of government. I urge all my supporters across the country, all those who believe in a strong, united, and prosperous Nigeria, to immediately register with the ADC and join this new political front.”

Atiku’s formal entry marks the official activation of a coalition that has been coalescing since mid-2025, bringing together key opposition figures who are positioning the ADC as the unifying platform to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming polls.

The ADC leadership and local political stakeholders in Adamawa State were on hand to celebrate the registration, urging citizens, particularly youths and women, to heed the former Vice President’s call and join the party to “take ownership of the nation’s political future.”
