The showdown for a spot in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Playoffs is officially set, as the Gabonese national team, the Panthers, have unveiled a formidable 27-man squad ahead of their crucial semi-final clash against the Nigerian Super Eagles.

Gabon’s Head Coach, Thierry Mouyouma, made the announcement on Thursday, confirming that veteran striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will lead the charge as the team’s captain. The high-stakes match is scheduled for next Thursday, November 13, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco.

Gabon’s Arsenal of Talent

Mouyouma’s selection is a blend of experience and attacking threat, signaling Gabon’s determination to secure their first-ever appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The squad is spearheaded by the Marseille forward, Aubameyang, who has consistently demonstrated his commitment and firepower for the national team throughout the qualifiers. He is joined by other significant European-based stars:

Mario Lemina (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Denis Bouanga (Los Angeles FC), Gabon’s leading scorer in the qualifiers.

Bruno Ecuele Manga (Chamois Niortais)

The winner of the Gabon-Nigeria encounter will advance to the final playoff round, where they will face the victor of the match between Cameroon and DR Congo for a chance to clinch one of Africa’s coveted World Cup slots.

Nigeria, aiming to return to the global stage after missing the Qatar 2022 tournament, will need to be wary of Gabon’s offensive quality, led by the experience and motivation of their talismanic captain, Aubameyang.
