The remains of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, will be laid to rest today in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The revered monarch, who passed away at the age of 90, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning kings, serving for over six decades. His burial ceremony is being attended by traditional rulers, political figures, and dignitaries from across the country.

Ijebu-Ode has witnessed an influx of visitors paying final respects to a monarch whose reign brought modernization and socio-political relevance to the Ijebu people. Security around the town has been heightened, and traffic diversions have been enforced to manage the crowd and ensure order during the ceremony.

Oba Adetona was known for his progressive stance on governance and traditional leadership. His legacy includes championing education, advocating for reforms in Nigeria’s monarchy system, and being a voice of conscience during political upheavals.
