The Federal High Court in Abuja was informed on Friday by the Department of State Services that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, was directly responsible for the economic stagnation in the South-East due to his broadcasts.

Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), the prosecution’s attorney, led the fourth prosecution witness, a DSS agent code-named Mr. DDD for security reasons, in his testimony before Justice James Omotosho.

In his testimony, Mr. DDD claimed that Kanu’s broadcasts encouraged the Eastern Security Network, IPOB’s militant wing, to implement the group’s sit-at-home directive.

“Based on my investigation, the defendant’s broadcasts fueled the enforcement of IPOB’s sit-at-home order, which in turn caused economic paralysis in the South-East,” Mr. DDD testified. In order to avoid discovery, the witness reportedly described how Kanu allegedly snuck a radio transmitter into Nigeria by hiding it inside household objects. He claims that the transmitter was concealed at the home of Benjamin Madubougu in Ihiala, Anambra State, and was not reported to the Nigerian Customs Service.

Mr. DDD informed the court that Kanu disseminated secessionist statements and incited violence using the transmitter.

“The defendant incited the public against the Federal Government by using the radio,” he stated. After obtaining a search warrant, we examined Benjamin’s home and found the transmitter among other things including Indian hemp, guns, ammunition, and Biafran cash.
