Police authorities in Abuja have arrested 82 individuals over a two-month period in a sweeping crackdown on criminal activities within the Federal Capital Territory. The arrests were made in connection with various offenses, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, kidnapping, car theft, and cult-related violence.
According to the FCT Police Command, the operation was part of a coordinated effort to improve public safety and dismantle criminal networks operating in the city and its outskirts. Several weapons, stolen vehicles, hard drugs, and other illegal items were recovered during the raids.
The Commissioner of Police emphasized the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining law and order in the capital, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. Authorities noted that some of the suspects are repeat offenders and have been on the watchlist for months.
The arrests have been welcomed by many residents who say criminal activities had surged in recent months. Investigations are ongoing, and several of the suspects are expected to be charged in court soon.
