A police inspector, identified as Afolabi Adeola, was killed in a tragic accident along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State on Monday, July 1, 2025. According to official reports from the Ogun State Police Command, the officer was hit by a cement truck that lost control near a police checkpoint.
Eyewitnesses stated that the truck veered off its lane due to brake failure, crashing into a group of officers on duty. Inspector Adeola suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. The truck driver was reportedly apprehended and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
This incident has reignited public concern over the safety of roadside checkpoints and the conditions of Nigeria’s major highways. Advocacy groups have called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and police authorities to review current traffic control practices, especially in high-risk zones. Road users and security operatives alike are demanding a better balance between public security and traffic safety.
